Caring for your Jewelry
The Painted Horse Jewelry & Gifts recommends that you care for your sterling silver jewelry by storing it in an air tight container (such as a sealed bag with a cotton cloth preventing pieces from rubbing together) when not being worn. Remove jewelry when swimming, bathing or doing dishes. Silver is a soft metal and can bend if enough force is applied. You should remove your jewelry before doing any heavy lifting or sports.
Never lay sterling silver jewelry against bare wood or paper or cardboard. Wood products contain an acid that will mar the surface of the silver.
Cleaning of sterling silver jewelry should be done with a 100% cotton cloth or a specially designed silver cleaning cloth. Do Not use silver cleaning paste on stones!!! Quick cleaning of silver can be done with a small amount of liquid detergent or soap added to about a half cup of warm water. Using a soft cloth wipe the solution on the jewelry, rinse and wipe dry.
Especially tarnished silver(black colored) may be soaked in vinegar providing there are NO stones. After soaking, the jewelry still may need to be polished with a jewelry cloth or a liquid paste. Paste is recommended to remove tarnish from silver jewelry with stones, taking care to not get any paste on the stones as this will tend to break the stone down over time.
